INTERVIEWS
"I'm not aware of pesticide use going
up." In this rare interview with
a GMO researcher we discuss concerns surrounding GMO*
health and risks. Most scientists,
politicians,
pundits
and bloggers
who back the production and patenting of GMOs are
genuinely ignorant of the real world effects of GMO
corporate regimes. The willingness to repeat corporate
glossy brochure doggerel is writ large every time you
encounter a GMO backer. Professor Hanson is the
point man and frequent defender of the genetic
engineering of the Chile pepper in New Mexico. He
figures prominently in the film. It took quite a bit of
slicing through the University's jibber-jabber to get
to finally sit and talk with Hanson. A private research firm
would simply refuse an interview and then release the
crop without telling you, but that's another story. Genetic Chile, the
benchmark GMO Movie, is the only GMO film that has
gained total access to the GMO production process and
takes the backers of GMO foods at their word and then
(with facts and published, peer-reviewed scientific
papers) dissects the corporate talking points that are
rampant in the scientific and political communities. * As a side note,
Hanson and NMSU will do everything they can to deny
that they are genetically modifying the pepper. It's
not as easy as simply calling them up and asking about
it. They'll obfuscate and play word games. If you say
GMO or Genetically Modified they will pretend like you
don't actually mean Genetically Engineered (which is
the official term according to NMSU--by fiat, not even
the United Nations is as sticky about it). |
